The Santa Monica City Council announced after closed session that it had extended an offer of permanent employment to Heidi Von Ton for the position of city attorney with an effective date of March 25; Mayor Trosis said the contract will be brought back to council on March 24 for formal consideration.
On the open agenda the council approved most of the consent calendar, with staff pulling item 4G for later and Council Member Hall recusing on item 4A and pulling item 4C for discussion. The council then approved the remaining consent items by roll call. Item 4C (appointment of J. Baldwin as the 2026–2028 poet laureate) was moved and seconded, council members paid tribute to the inaugural laureate Anne, welcomed J. Baldwin and voted to approve the appointment.
Separately, the council approved item 4A awarding RFP 452 to Potential Industries Incorporated for recyclable-material processing services; Council Member Hall recused from that item and the motion passed by recorded vote. The city clerk noted further closed-session items and the meeting adjourned after the closed-session reports.
