S8 presented the advisory board's traffic-box public-art project and proposed the theme 'Our community, our canvas' to allow broad artistic interpretations. Members discussed DOT permitting, application language and a timeline to open submissions with a May 10 deadline and board review at the May 14 meeting.
The committee agreed on three target locations to pursue this year: Baseline & Whitehaven, Love & Baseline (by D*** and Jenny’s), and Stony & Staley (near St. Timothy’s). S8 noted some boxes are state-owned and require additional approvals.
S4 moved and S3 seconded a motion to authorize up to $1,000 from EDAB funds to cover artist awards and paint kits for the project (approximately $200 per selected artist and materials). Members voted in favor by voice; the motion passed. The committee will forward the motion and recommended artist selections to the town board for final approval.
Next: update the application dates and theme text, post the call for artists, and prepare materials for the May review and town-board notification.
