During the April 20 meeting Superintendent R Baney updated the board on district construction and facilities projects. Baney said the Kewanee High School HVAC project is nearly complete and the new addition was used successfully for a recent IHSA organizational contest. She added that the tennis courts will be completed once the district records "five straight fifty degree days" and that a minor roof issue is being addressed.
Baney told the board the district has advertised for new architects and hopes to complete that selection by the June meeting.
On academic programming, Ms. Olalde reported that KHS added two more College and Career Pathway Endorsements this year and the district expects about 32 students to graduate with endorsements; KHS is planning three additional pathways (Criminal Justice, Business and Culinary Arts) for next year and currently has 94 students signed up for pathway programs.
Mrs. Tidwell also reported extracurricular updates: 47 students were inducted into the National Honor Society; members of the FFA and junior-high wrestling team were recognized for recent achievements; chess interest surveys found 24 students interested in a competitive team and 30 interested in a club.
The board recorded these updates for administrative follow-up; no action items were required beyond ongoing project management and architect selection.
