Chairman highlights e‑gaming center as an underused workforce‑development resource

Chairman Singleton told the commission on May 19 that local e‑gaming and esports programming can support workforce development and help young people prepare for college and careers.
"It is wonderful...technology that supports workforce development," Chairman Singleton said, describing a recent tour of the facility now known as the Midtown Y (formerly the Southeast Y). He said the center is "almost state of the art" and that staff report it is currently underutilized. Singleton encouraged commissioners and community members to visit the center.
Commissioner Costanza thanked YMCA staff and praised the I LEAD program organized by the district attorney's office, saying the program gives fifth graders opportunities to meet community leaders and gain inspiration. Costanza also gave a brief update that the county is working toward a location for East Montgomery probate on Atlanta Highway at the old Arelli Auto Parts site and said the county is in an inspection phase for that project.
Chairman Singleton framed e‑gaming as an area that builds coordination, critical thinking and teamwork, and urged the commission to consider the center's offerings in future planning for community centers.
