Keller ISD staff told the Student Health Advisory Committee on April 20 that the district will adopt a revised Wellness Plan for the 2026—627 school year and move from a triennial to an annual review schedule.
Jody Webster, Director of Health Services, described edits to align the plan with district administrative regulations, clarified roles by replacing the term "stakeholders" with "responsible parties," and restructured objectives using SMART formatting. Webster said the district revised how it measures increases in school breakfast and lunch participation (measured relative to overall enrollment), removed some outdated monitoring links, added a professional development component for teachers to support nutrition education, and included a plan to display educational signage on serving lines and in cafeterias. Webster said the revised plan will be posted to the district website under Health Services and Wellness Policy links and that subcommittees will continue to work on implementation goals.
Jennifer Price provided an update on counseling and student supports, including the Kids Hope mentoring program (mentors vetted by partner organizations and local background checks; about 25 students currently partnered), Hope Squads at secondary schools to connect peers to trusted adults, weekend snack and food-bag distributions for families in need, and the district's expansion of dual-enrollment offerings through a partnership with Tarleton. Price also noted planned parent/transition education for families moving from middle to high school and that counseling staff coordinate with schools for both academic planning and social-emotional supports.
Committee members thanked staff for their work. The meeting record did not show formal adoption language for the Wellness Plan on the record at that session, but Webster stated the plan would be adopted and implemented beginning in the 2026—627 school year and posted online.
