Parents urge Magnolia ISD board to investigate transport error that left child at home and other staff-protocol complaints

Two parents used public comment time at the Magnolia ISD Board meeting to ask trustees to investigate recurring transportation and staff‑conduct problems.

James Jones said his 7‑year‑old daughter, who is on the autism spectrum, was placed on a bus through the district's Adventures after‑school process and taken to his home when no one was there. He said he was out of state and watched a doorbell notification at 4:35 p.m.; he described his daughter as “standing on my front porch, locked out of my house, emotionally unregulated, terrified and alone.” Jones said district transportation staff later refused to return and pick up the child and that he has been told some district staff still have unanswered questions about how the error occurred. He asked to file a formal complaint and to be contacted for follow up.

Ray Furcheck told trustees he has raised multiple concerns for months about staff not following protocols, including alleged instances of teachers reintroducing sick students to class, misrouting items to the wrong household and staff communicating in ways that he said violated district policies. He said he requested repeated assurances from administration that the behavior would stop and that those assurances were not kept. “I am asking the board to do a full investigation on the administration that’s been involved and follow up with me about a resolution,” Furcheck said.

The board accepted both public comments; no action or formal responses were recorded in the meeting transcript. The chair thanked the speakers and moved on to agenda business.
