Board approves consent agenda, school calendar, VSBA policies and employment recommendations

At its March meeting the Dickinson County School Board approved the consent agenda, adopted the 2026–27 school calendar (Option 1), approved 27 VSBA policy updates, approved employment recommendations following closed session, and adjourned.
Several procedural and action items were handled by the board during the March meeting.
Consent agenda: The board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes, monthly invoices, revenue and expenditure summaries, school activity funds reports, field-trip approvals, new elementary construction invoices, the construction bank reconciliation, and the Dickinson County Public Schools health statement account.
School calendar: The board approved the 2026–27 school calendar after Ms. Dill presented two options and said 205 employees completed a Google survey. Option one (short Easter break in March and a short spring break in April) received 74% of survey responses and was approved by the board.
VSBA policies: Ms. Martin presented 27 updated VSBA policies (of 44 under review) focusing on clarity, cross-reference corrections, legal citation updates and administrative changes; the board approved the proposed policies as presented.
Closed-session employment approvals: The board entered closed session under Virginia Code Section 2.2‑3711 to discuss employment matters (part-time custodians, FMLA substitutes and coaches) and legal consultations. After returning to open session and reading the certification, the board voted to approve the employment recommendations presented in closed session.
Adjournment: With no further business, the board moved to adjourn; the motion carried by voice vote.
