District presents inclusive-practices self-assessment; six improvement areas identified

Dr. Jesse Nees presented Dickinson County Public Schools’ inclusive-practices self-assessment and an action plan for the 2025–26 school year. The self-assessment covered 10 areas with five to nine indicators each (about 60 items), and principals and school teams completed local assessments that Dr. Nees compiled into a systemwide plan.
Dr. Nees said the district had improved in four of the 10 areas since the previous assessment in 2022–23 and highlighted strengths in family engagement and student-centered staffing after school consolidations. He listed six priority improvement areas the district will focus on, including differentiated instructional practices, pre-assessment strategies, paraprofessional training and identifying model classrooms for peer observation and coaching.
Board members commended the thorough reports from school teams and emphasized the need to expand paraprofessional training. Dr. Nees closed by asking whether the board had questions; none were substantive in the public record.
