Shawnee County commissioners approve vouchers, juvenile pilot contract and IT purchases; staff to probe Wakarusa event venue complaints

Erin Hicks, manager of juvenile services, said the program would cost $30,360 and be paid from the Community Corrections Juvenile Program State Grant Fund, initially serving roughly 10–11 youth per year with 12–20 therapy sessions each.
Commissioners also approved contract C2026121 to buy 36 laptops with four‑year warranties and 11 docking stations through CDW under State of Kansas pricing for $80,830. Mark Price of Information Technology said departments will share funding for replacements and that the purchase is timed to avoid imminent price increases.
During public comment, multiple residents raised complaints about loud music, bass and strobe lighting at the Buena Vista Event Center on the former Wakarusa sale barn site; staff said planning and zoning, the county counselor and the sheriff will investigate. The meeting recessed into executive session to discuss several closed items, including contract negotiations related to the Manor Conference Center and financial data for "project Tin Man," and the board then adjourned with no action taken in closed session.
