PCTPA presents countywide Active Transportation Plan; draft to be released for Loomis public comment

Peterson explained the ATP’s goals — improving walking, biking and rolling facilities for “all ages and abilities” — and reviewed existing conditions, community outreach results, level‑of‑traffic‑stress analysis, and a prioritized project list for bicycle and pedestrian improvements. He said the plan emphasizes safety, connectivity and grant readiness and that staff prepared conceptual drawings for town corridors, including Taylor Road and King Road, so jurisdictions can use them to pursue grants.
Peterson said the draft plan release date should read March 18 (the packet listed March 13 in error), with a public comment period running until mid‑April and anticipated PCTPA board action in May. He told the council that jurisdictions may adopt the county plan locally if they wish to use it as their own ATP for grant applications.
During public comment resident Jean Wilson urged bicycle safety improvements on Barton Road, noting narrow shoulders, drainage ditches and the potential loss of trees if the road is widened. Councilmembers and staff acknowledged those implementation challenges and said detailed design and right‑of‑way considerations will be part of future project work.
The council requested that the presentation be added to the public record; no local adoption vote occurred at this meeting.
