Fremont County awards $997,000 contract to replace Judicial Building rooftop units

The Fremont County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to award a $997,000 contract to Freedom Mechanical for replacement of rooftop HVAC units at the Fremont County Judicial Building.

Sam Coia, the county engineer, told the board the county solicited design-build proposals and received four bids. "The lowest responsible and responsive bidder was Freedom Mechanical. The total bid amount was $997,000," Coia said, recommending staff'0award the contract and that the chair be authorized to execute the documents.

Staff told commissioners funding for the work is available in this fiscal year'0Capital Improvement account. Commissioner McFaul added that approximately half the project cost was covered by an underfunded courthouse grant, which made the larger project feasible.

When asked about schedule and lead times for rooftop units, the county'0director of facilities said units proposed for the project carry a roughly 12-week lead time once ordered; staff said the county'0is aiming to begin procurement and contractor mobilization in late July or early August and to complete major installation work by late September or October so that systems are finished before the end of the year. The director also said installation work is expected to require only a few days per rooftop unit once materials arrive.

The board moved to accept staff recommendations and award the contract; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote with all members voting "aye." The chair was authorized to sign all necessary documents to proceed with the contract.

The county noted additional integration work to bring new rooftop units into the Automated Building Control system is outside this bid'0scope and will be funded separately if required.
