Wapello County board appoints Danielle Weller as interim auditor

The Wapello County Board of Supervisors appointed Danielle Weller to fill the auditor vacancy until the November election after Kelly Spurgeon announced her retirement at the end of the month.
A board member moved to appoint Weller and the motion passed after a second. Weller addressed the board and public, thanking the supervisors and outgoing auditor Kelly Spurgeon for her guidance over 22 years. "I'm excited for this new role and the opportunity to evolve and grow within the office," Weller said.
Board members also approved a leave of absence for Weller while she serves in the elected position, citing Iowa Code chapter 55.1 which allows an employee to return to their prior job if they lose the election.
The appointment is effective immediately and will continue until the elected auditor takes office following the November election.
