Council holds hearing on lowering City View Drive school-zone speed limit; staff to complete traffic study

The Wichita Falls City Council held a public hearing March 17 on an ordinance to amend the school-zone speed limit along City View Drive adjacent to City View ISD. The proposal would reduce the posted school-zone speed from 25 mph to 20 mph.
Principal Stone of City View ISD described safety concerns after recent incidents near local schools and asked the council to consider the reduced school-zone speed. City traffic engineers and staff said the process requires a public hearing, a formal traffic study (including counts and documentation) and then council action at a subsequent meeting. Staff committed to completing the traffic study if it had not already been done and returning with a recommendation at the next council meeting.
Council did not take final action at the March 17 meeting; the public hearing was closed and staff will return with study results and an ordinance for vote.
