Alamance County Rescue Unit asks commissioners to create service district for stable funding

Mahoney described call volumes, specialized capabilities — swift-water rescue, dive teams, trench and agricultural rescue — and a volunteer and junior-member program. He said the county currently provides $125,000 annually and that a countywide service district funded by a modest tax (a quarter-cent example, described as roughly $7 per year for the median household) would provide reliable support for paid day staffing, capital needs and training.
Commissioners praised the unit’s work and discussed options including countywide tax districts and continued support; no formal vote was taken on a service district at the meeting.
