Westwood Library to pilot smart door counters, expand programming and host monthly health screenings

At the Jan. 27 meeting Director Catherine Dileo reported several service and program initiatives the library will pursue. The board approved a pilot of smart door counters at the Westwood Library, funded by the BCCLS Innovation Fund, which will provide the director with live patron counts, occupancy tracking and forecasting data.
CD said Pascack Valley Medical Center has expressed interest in offering free monthly health screenings at the library and that staff and patrons have proposed prospective safety classes. The director said she will gather information to draft an unattended-children policy and will add door counts and circulation data to future Director’s Reports. She also said she will explore a tech-assistance-by-appointment program and a morning book group.
CD told the board that the State report is due mid-March and she expects to complete it by the February meeting. The items were presented as director initiatives and informational updates; the board did not record formal votes on the pilot or program development in the minutes.
