County updates: veterans receive 501(c) status; fair board fundraising and building-inspector actions reported

Dick Bergquist told commissioners the Washington County Veterans organization has received 501(c) status, reviewed its services, and requested continued county support of $2,000; he said last year’s county contribution covered utility bills and administrative expenses and that the group is seeking funding from the LOR Foundation for building improvements. Fair Board representatives Nick Rynearson and Alea Bunker reported about $95,000 was raised toward beef barn expenses and requested a 3% increase in the Fair Board's 2027 county budget.
Building Inspector Billy Russell said he is pursuing Idaho licensing certifications and needs study materials; Tony Young recommended purchasing updated code books and said he is willing to continue assisting with inspections under a modified contract. Commissioner Jim Harberd moved and Commissioners approved a credit card application for Russell.
Prosecuting Attorney True Pearce asked for an additional week to submit his budget request and reported coordination with the Sheriff on the Justice Fund budget. On Gentry Lane, Commissioner Wilkerson summarized survey and appraisal work and said county crews are ready to move fences and perform grading once closing is complete.
No funding decisions for the Veterans or Fair Board requests were recorded at the meeting; officials noted follow-up and further budget discussions would occur during the 2027 budget process.
