Road and Bridge supervisor updates commissioners on bridge work, grader award, staffing and budgets

Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor Jerod Odoms briefed commissioners on May 18 about bridge projects, equipment procurement, staffing and upcoming budget changes.
Odoms recapped the Cove Road Bridge ribbon-cutting and ongoing work on Unity and Crane Creek bridges. He reported that the road-grader bid was awarded to Coastline and that he had informed Western States Caterpillar of the decision. Odoms clarified that Washington County does not perform dust abatement as a county service but does perform road stabilization at about eight miles per year; if a landowner purchases a product, the county will apply it.
Odoms also noted personnel changes: an employee will retire May 27 and a new employee will begin next week at the Transfer Station in Midvale. He asked for separate, in-depth meetings with commissioners to review proposed substantial changes to the 2027 Solid Waste and Road & Bridge budgets.
During later discussion about Gentry Lane, Commissioner Wilkerson summarized that extra ground was purchased to avoid a void next to a property and that the landowner is satisfied; Prosecuting Attorney True Pearce said he would follow up with the title company, and Odoms said crews are ready to move fences and complete the road work once closing occurs.
