Planning official: no data center applications received; trust account not indicative of embezzlement

Planning & Zoning Administrator Bridget Felmley told the Board May 18 that although staff have received multiple phone calls about potential data centers, Planning & Zoning has not received any applications or formal proposals.
Felmley also addressed concerns about the Planning & Zoning Trust Account and said there is a balance in the account, that research is underway to determine whether refunds are due or whether a payment posted to a wrong line, and that a few refunds have already been issued. She said there is "zero indication of embezzlement or wrongdoing." Commissioners requested follow-up site visits in at least one case and asked staff to begin researching data centers and solar farms.
Felmley further reported that the Airport Nuisance Zone hearing scheduled for May 19 was canceled and that she had spoken with Emergency Manager Johnny Biddinger about a drought resolution; she said the county does not need to adopt a drought resolution at this time.
The Board directed Planning & Zoning to research data centers and solar farm regulations and report back as needed; no formal zoning actions were taken at the meeting.
