Jerod Odoms, Washington County Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor, updated the Board May 18 on ongoing bridge work, staffing and equipment decisions and signaled substantial budget changes for 2027.
Odoms reported that work on Unity and Crane Creek Bridges is ongoing and thanked attendees of the Cove Road Bridge ribbon cutting while noting liability matters remain tied to official completion. He said an employee will retire May 27 and a new employee will start next week at the Midvale Transfer Station. Odoms told the Board that the grader bid was awarded to Coastline (after notifying Western States Caterpillar) and that the county performs road stabilization on roughly eight miles per year; dust abatement is not a county service, but the county will apply dust-control product if a landowner purchases it.
Odoms asked to send three members of his staff to the fall conference and said he will watch for grant opportunities relevant to road work. He also told commissioners his 2027 budget requests will involve substantial changes to Solid Waste and Road & Bridge budgets and requested separate meetings with each commissioner to explain the changes because a workshop might not be sufficient.
The Board did not adopt any budget figures at the meeting; Odoms said he will meet separately with commissioners to provide a detailed explanation of requested changes.
