Board accepts Judicial Ditch 15 repairs and approves final payment

The Blue Earth County Drainage Authority accepted completion of repairs on Judicial Ditch 15 and approved final payment at the May 26 meeting following an ISG closeout report.
ISG appointed engineer Chuck Brandle summarized the JD15 closeout: JD15 covers roughly 3,168 acres; repair work focused on identified problem reaches and included installing or repairing a 24-inch main line and several branch laterals. Brandle said construction encountered unexpectedly wet, sandy conditions that required extra rock and some alignment changes. He reported a repair estimate just under $400,000, the originally awarded contract of about $336,000 (including change orders), and total project costs of $406,515.70. Brandle reported payments to the contractor to date and recommended accepting the work, abandoning the existing tile as noted, paying damages shown in the engineer’s report, approving final payment and beginning the warranty period.
Public comment was opened; no members of the public addressed the board on JD15. The board moved, seconded and voted to accept the engineer’s report and approve final payment and retainage as recommended. The engineer said as-built documentation has been submitted for future repairs and that landowners have been provided a damages summary.
