The same council member called attention to multiple fire hydrants across the city that are covered with black trash bags and not in working order, calling the condition a “huge concern” for residents and firefighters because nonworking hydrants “can cause catastrophic delays in firefighting” and increase the risk to life and property.
Chair responded that specific answers to some of these operational questions are best handled in a one-on-one conversation with the city manager; the manager confirmed she would take the concerns back to staff and said answers would be provided outside the meeting.
The council did not vote on any audit or hydrant-related action during the meeting; the item remained a request for staff follow-up.
