The Sturgis City Commission approved a resolution to accept conveyance and dedicate an additional 17 feet of right of way on North Clay Street so a developer can construct four duplexes and place sanitary sewer inside the public right of way.
Barry Cox described the project and said the 17‑foot addition will make the right of way a full 66 feet from Lafayette to McKee and allow the developer to place sanitary sewer within the right of way "so they don't have to provide an easement for that," Cox said.
Commissioner (S8) moved to accept conveyance and dedication of the property shown on Exhibit A for public right‑of‑way purposes; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Why it matters: accepting the conveyance clears title and access issues and allows infrastructure (sanitary sewer) to be installed within the public right of way as part of a housing infill project.
Next steps: staff will finalize the deed records and oversee placement of sewer infrastructure with the developer as part of the construction approvals.
