At its meeting, the Belmont Board of Selectmen approved a series of revised 2025 departmental budget lines after staff presented updated after-adjustment figures.
Chair (speaker 2) moved to accept the water department figure of $343,438 following staff remarks about FICA, MEDI and an increased rent payment to Laconia. The motion was seconded and the board voiced unanimous assent.
Later in the agenda the board confirmed $736,834 for the sewer department after staff explained a pay-line increase tied to an employee certification. The board also approved a police department appropriation of $3,161,230 after a motion and second.
Additional approved items included $513,473 for general government/buildings and a dental line of $418,638; the board accepted a property-tax-related line of $141,216 after staff presented a revised contract amount. Several motions were made and seconded on the record and resolved by voice vote.
Board discussion also addressed community events funding, including a contested $9,000 Old Home Day fireworks line that budget committee members had reduced to $1; several selectmen favored keeping the earmarked amount while encouraging volunteer fundraising or exploring laser/drone alternatives to traditional fireworks.
No member proposed rescinding previously approved after-adjustment numbers at the meeting. Chair instructed staff to carry forward the approved after-adjustment numbers as the official budget figures and to provide additional data where links and documentation had been corrected.
