Oak Brook Park District posts tentative FY2025–26 budget, schedules April 21 public hearing

The Oak Brook Park District Board on March 17 placed its tentative Budget and Appropriation Ordinance 25-0421 for the fiscal year May 1, 2025–April 30, 2026 on public display and set a public hearing for April 21, 2025 to receive comments.
CFO Marco Salinas told the Board he had updated the document since the February 24 review; President Knitter summarized that projected revenue would increase while expenditures are expected to decrease in the coming fiscal year. A legal notice of the hearing will be published in the Doings — Oak Brook newspaper on April 10, 2025, as required for the 30-day public display period.
Executive Director Dr. Laure Kosey said the 10-year Capital Improvement Plan should emphasize work that will occur in FY2025–26 because later years remain subject to change. She outlined several FY2025–26 items staff intend to pursue if funding permits: purchase of an LED digital poster to support Movies in the Park (the board clarified the device is not a digital sign), targeted replacement of vertical aquatic tiles, roof maintenance at the Family Recreation Center front entry, and a bridge replacement (labeled Gabion Weir Replacement) that would proceed only if the Park District receives a federal grant.
The Board also discussed local parking needs after Village roadway work that will remove 13 parking spaces near Forest Gate. Dr. Kosey said those 13 spaces are budgeted for replacement but not in the next fiscal year; President Knitter asked staff to coordinate with the Village about possible easement use or road widening as a more cost-effective approach than relocating parking.
Staff said Saddlebrook barn exploration remains under consideration with funding earmarked for future work, and that the District will continue pursuing an external grant for proposed pickleball courts (the courts were not funded in the FY2025–26 plan). Dr. Kosey also noted staff are budgeting for upgraded file migration and SharePoint integration to ease budget coordination and retire aging servers.
The tentative budget will remain available for public review during the 30-day notice period. The Board will accept public comment at the hearing on April 21 and subsequently consider final adoption in a future meeting.
