Bedford County issues proclamations recognizing awareness months, historian and community events

Commissioners declared April 2026 as "Pennsylvania 811 Safe Digging Month," with a reading by a Pennsylvania 811 damage-prevention specialist that reminded residents and contractors to contact 811 at least three business days before excavation under PA Act 287 of 1974. The board approved a proclamation for Sexual Assault Awareness Month read by Jennifer Judd of Your Safe Haven, Inc.; the proclamation highlighted that Your Safe Haven served 275 clients during the 2024–2025 fiscal year and cited national prevalence statistics included in the document.
Other proclamations approved included National Public Safety Telecommunications Week (read by Brittany McConnell, director of emergency services), Alcohol Awareness Month (read by Peter Loehner of Personal Solutions, Inc.), National Library Week (read by Matt Godissart, library director), Child Abuse Prevention Month (read by Chris Gresko of Children and Youth Services, which noted 24 abused children in Bedford County in 2025), Young at Heart Weeks (read by Tyler Mizak and Bobbie Howsare) and Fair Housing Month (read by Cheryl McInroy). All proclamations were approved by motion of the board as recorded in the meeting minutes.
The proclamations are ceremonial but reflect the county’s public-safety, social-service and cultural priorities for April and the coming weeks.
