Josephine County approves $76,800 progressive payment to decommission fuel tanks

The Josephine County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the first progressive payment of $76,800 to M and M Service LLC for removal and decommissioning of old fuel tanks and pumps on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The payment is the first installment under a $102,400 contract, public works staff told the board. Richard, the public works representative, said the tanks and pumps have been removed and taken off-site and crews are filling the excavation holes. He said one remaining area where pumps had been located is awaiting results of a diesel-seepage analysis before final fill and restoration can proceed.
The approval followed brief discussion about site access and contractor outreach. Richard said he has begun getting estimates to decommission an additional site referred to as “Kirby” and that contractors expect to have access to a rear building by the end of the week. Commissioners discussed the contractor’s billing and estimated the project is roughly three-quarters complete.
A commissioner moved and a second was recorded; the board took a roll call with Commissioners Richardson, Martin and Smith recorded as voting yes. The chair then stated, “Motion carries.”
County officials said the contract has not yet been fully expended; staff will return with further updates once the seepage analysis is complete and remaining work is scheduled.
The board then moved to the human resources portion of the agenda.
