Charter Commission will meet town attorney before reviewing Articles 1 and 2

Members of the Waterboro Charter Commission agreed to defer detailed work on Articles 1 and 2 of the charter until they have met with the town attorney, Natalie, who is scheduled to attend the commission’s November meeting.
A commission member said the attorney "has quite a bit she wants to discuss," and members agreed that meeting with Natalie first would help the commission identify which items are minor edits and which are major changes requiring a town vote.
Commissioners also recommended meeting with the town administrator, the planner and department heads to gather practical input before drafting proposed charter language. One member urged the commission to meet with "the town administrator and the planner" and suggested also reaching out to department heads so the commission can understand issues that have recurred in the charter over the past decade.
Why it matters: The attorney’s input will help the commission determine whether proposed changes are minor (administrative rewording) or major (requiring a town-wide vote) and will influence the scope of any eventual ballot items.
