The Dixie County Court on Tuesday granted a petition to appoint co‑conservators for 92‑year‑old Dorothy Hunter.
Petitioners Shirley Ponder and John Hunter, who identified themselves as Hunter’s two biological children, testified under oath about her worsening arthritis, heart failure and memory loss. The petition included a physician’s report from Dr. Benjamin DeHaven documenting the medical condition and a property‑management plan addressing the use of Hunter’s real estate and financial assets to pay for medical and living expenses.
The judge said he had reviewed the guardian ad litem report prepared by Mr. Brown and, after hearing from petitioners and considering the evidence of falls and declining health, granted the order appointing co‑conservators. The court directed counsel to submit an order to enter in the file and indicated petitioners may use existing bank accounts, CDs and stocks for Hunter’s care as outlined in the property management plan.
The judge allowed petitioners to move Hunter to a new care facility (transitioning from Olive Branch to the Pearl at Fairview) based on the representation that the move would better serve her needs. The judge also invited counsel to submit a fee application for the guardian ad litem if appropriate and asked the clerk to enter the agreed order.
