Student and teacher representatives recap year-end events; Merit awards $20,000 in classroom grants

The student representative, Nicholas, outlined senior activities including senior project presentations, a senior activity week (May 26–30), a rolling rally Friday May 29 at 5:30 p.m. escorted by Millis police and fire, a bonfire, graduation practice June 2–3 and graduation on Thursday June 4 at 6:00 p.m. He noted seniors have a reserved allotment of seating (eight guests per graduate) and listed upcoming testing and award events for underclass students.
Teacher representative Miss Kopice highlighted elementary- and middle-school programs: Clyde Brown third-graders’ art projects with senior center pen pals; preschool visits funded by the Home and School Association to the Discovery Museum; World Culture Night; recorder concerts; a Scholastic Book Fair at the CFB; and a fifth-grade wax museum. The teacher representative also praised staff recognized by the Norfolk County Teachers Association.
The superintendent also shared a Merit year-end update: Merit awarded $20,000 in classroom grants this year to fund projects ranging from early numeracy kits to a Boston Symphony Orchestra trip for fifth grade and a Woods Hole marine-biology overnight trip. He encouraged the community to save Oct. 24 for the Merit haunted-hayride fundraiser.
