Groveland — The Friends of the Council on Aging unveiled fundraising and volunteer efforts at the Feb. 18 COA meeting, including a corned beef and cribbage fundraiser March 12 at Bradford Village Square and incentives to encourage snow‑shoveling volunteers.
Larry McElhenney, president of the Friends, said the event is meant both to raise funds for COA programming and to create an opportunity for community members to gather. The meal is priced at $25 and the cribbage tournament entry is $20; those who only wish to play may pay the tournament fee without the meal.
McElhenney said the Friends’ annual fund drive asks for a $10 donation to become a voting member, with larger donations welcome, and noted that the group is trying to encourage volunteer shoveling for older residents by offering gift‑card incentives to volunteers.
Separately, COA director Alyssa Lee announced a volunteer luncheon on April 23 at the Black Swan and a plarn (plastic‑bag yarn) art workshop in partnership with the public library for Earth Day; Lee requested community donations of plastic bags to support the workshop.
McElhenney encouraged attendance at the March 12 event and said proceeds support Council on Aging activities and services. The Friends will include event information in the March–April newsletter and welcome both meal and tournament participants.
