Kane County approves OHV grant application to buy grooming equipment for popular backcountry roads

To address recurring maintenance needs, the county applied for an Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation (OHVR) grant to purchase equipment to groom these roads more consistently.
Glover said the grant award is up to $99,029.44 and requires a 32 percent match, which the county plans to cover through a combination of in-kind work and cash. The commission voted to approve the State contract for the grant.
Why it matters: many county roads that serve recreational destinations receive heavy seasonal traffic and require more consistent maintenance to remain safe and passable. The equipment funded by this grant would allow county crews to groom roads rather than rely on ad-hoc patching.
The motion to approve the State of Utah Contract with the Division of Outdoor Recreation for the OHVR Grant was made by Commissioner Celeste Meyeres and carried unanimously.
