Chair read a letter and cited statute and PURA regulations about the Eastern Connecticut cable TV advisory council and said the municipality is required to appoint members to that advisory body. The board was told it needs to appoint three members (two appointed by the senior elected official and one by the municipal board of education).
A board member asked what the advisory council actually does; one participant explained the council historically provided input on which channels remain in the package and helped secure an access channel for school programming. Several members said they were not sufficiently informed to make appointments at this meeting and asked staff to provide the relevant regulation text and additional context.
A motion to table the item until the next meeting passed by voice vote. Chair said staff will pull up the regulations and statutes and the board will schedule a special meeting next week to continue discussion.
