Griswold officials confirmed at the Jan. 13 selectmen meeting that winter parking bans are posted on the town website and that the town will use trooper overtime and towing to enforce them.
Laurie Sorter, 67 Ashland Street, said the town uses Nixle to notify residents and reported that "we have 1,790 people that are signed up for Nixle." Sortmen participants said the town has dedicated overtime for a state trooper to assist public works and that towing will be used when cars do not move. "The only recourse is to have them towed," Sorter said. Officials added that issuing tickets is often ineffective when snow covers them.
A committee member stressed the public-safety rationale for enforcement, saying the last storm left plows and emergency crews unable to operate in some places and noting that one pump truck "had to back out" because it could not pass. Board members said parking bans are in place to allow public works and emergency vehicles to do their jobs and that enforcement will be stepped up.
The board also said it will use the town website and social media to publicize the enforcement plan. The selectmen scheduled a special meeting next week that will include additional discussion of cameras and other public-safety tools, and staff said they would report back to residents when next steps are set.
