The committee was told that Gardner Educational Television (GED TV) will relocate into an art room at the Waterford Community Center and must vacate its current high-school space by July 1. Mayor said the station will need at least three desks and a studio fit-out; Comcast has been notified about running a secondary cable into the new space, and staff expect a short interruption in new programming during the move.
Mayor said the city will accommodate the station's technical needs and that the move is on an expedited timeline to finish before the start of the new school-year fit-outs at the high school. "They need to be out of the high school by July 1 in order to fit out the space that they're currently in into new classrooms for Gardner Academy," the Mayor said. Staff warned the station may be down for a couple of days for a full shutdown and possibly up to one or two weeks for preplanned programming while the fit-out completes.
The city provided details about the new space: the larger room will serve as the studio, a smaller room as office and technical equipment space, and side doors adjacent to Wilderfield will remain primarily employee-only access while front doors remain public. The city said it can run pre-recorded programming at City Hall during any short outage to limit viewer disruption.
Next steps: staff will work with GED TV to finalize cable, furniture and technical fit-out and to schedule the move so broadcast interruption is minimized.
