Smyth County Board approves surplus of office equipment and county vehicles

The Smyth County Board of Supervisors voted April 23 to surplus a list of office equipment and multiple vehicles as recommended by staff.
Assistant County Administrator – Development Clegg Williams told the Board that departments had identified unused office supplies and equipment ranging from Lexmark printers, desks and filing cabinets to floor scrubbers, pianos and shelving units. Staff recommended offering items internally, then to local businesses, and finally free to the public; metal items would be recycled and sold for scrap.
Mr. Williams also presented a list of county vehicles recommended for surplus (several Sheriff’s Office Dodge Chargers and other department vehicles with VINs and mileages where noted). North Fork District Supervisor Rick Billings moved to approve both the equipment and vehicle surplus lists; the Board approved both motions unanimously.
Staff will manage the internal offer process and subsequent public disposition and recycling as outlined.
