Reno County Health Department reviews services, highlights vaccinations and WIC assistance

Megan Gutchak, assistant director for community health at the Reno County Health Department, and Karen Hammersmith, assistant director for clinical services, presented the department's annual report to the Reno County Commission on May 27.
Gutchak said the department uses data to identify risks and shape prevention efforts, noting programs that prevent illness and reduce hospitalization. She told commissioners the department has provided more than 500 residents with foot-care and home-support services, administered vaccinations to more than 4,000 people during the reporting period, and provided WIC services to over 1,000 families.
Looking ahead to the community health assessment and improvement plan (CHA/CHIP) for 2025–2027, Gutchak said residents identified substance misuse, access to care, transportation and mental health as top priorities. The department plans to work with community partners over the next three to five years to develop interventions tied to those priorities.
Commissioners had no substantive questions during the presentation and staff said they would be available to follow up on details in the written annual report.
