Residents tell Cocoa council of driveway, noise and safety problems; staff to follow up
Summary
Multiple residents raised neighborhood issues during public comment: a property‑line dispute and driveway apron requirement delaying occupancy, loud music and trash at a private property, and requests for crosswalks and flashing lights on busy streets; code and public‑works staff said they will reinspect and meet with residents.

Cocoa — Several residents used the public‑comment portion of the May 26 City Council meeting to press the council on neighborhood safety, drainage and nuisance enforcement.
George Allen Cowart asked the council to reconsider a city inspector’s requirement that an apron be installed at his son’s driveway at 2570 Hooper Road, saying the property line and an existing ditch mean the apron would not fall on the parcel the city expects and could add roughly $10,000 in cost. "The quick reason of this is the property line… is not where we could do it on this property," Cowart said. City staff agreed to review the maps and surveys and set up a meeting to examine easements and options.
Paul Khamis, who walks his neighborhood frequently, urged the city to evaluate several locations for pedestrian improvements, including flashing crosswalks, and suggested extra paint or speed markings on North Cocoa Boulevard and Highland/Olive Street curves to slow traffic.
Mrs. Lanza complained about loud music, trash and alleged drug activity at nearby addresses and said she has contacted code enforcement previously. A code officer told council she would reinspect the property and cite any observed violations.
Council members directed staff to follow up with inspections, meet with affected residents, and report back; no formal council action was taken during public comment beyond staff follow‑up commitments.
