Key actions included: approval of an additional appropriation to fund probation officer salary lines (totaling $35,253.28) after staff said certain employees moved into higher pay cohorts after budget hearings; authorization to use supplemental funds for a Public Defender storage container to bring decades of case files onsite and reduce recurring rental costs; allocation of $54,983.72 in auction proceeds toward a Mower Max tractor purchase for County Highway with DCRC covering the balance; and an EMS remount final payment to finish refurbishing an ambulance (total vehicle cost described at about $165,846) with EMS revenues cited as the funding source.
Council also approved larger transfers within the capital improvements and EMS budgets to cover contractual services, utilities, medical supplies and repairs. County staff said some accounts contained unpaid or unrecorded bills discovered after an office manager’s resignation and that transfers were intended to reconcile those liabilities without drawing on the general fund.
Roll-call votes carried the motions; administrators said they will return next month with any additional appropriation requests needed to replenish contractual accounts if funds are used this month to begin vendor work. Several department heads asked for budget guidance in advance of salary-submission deadlines and for clarity on insurance and benefit projections for the 2027 budget cycle.
