City staff said the amendment was requested to formally recognize indoor recreation uses that have operated in industrial areas and to establish development standards that ensure compatibility with surrounding industrial uses. The staff presentation cited the Beach Line Raceway facility as an example of an existing indoor recreation use that the amendment would acknowledge.
No public opposition was offered during the hearing and council approved the measure on first reading by voice vote. Staff noted the item is a first reading to correct prior advertisement requirements and that the Planning & Zoning Board previously reviewed the amendment.
The amendment sets development standards applicable to large indoor recreation uses in industrial areas; it will return for subsequent readings as required by code.
