Centennial honors student artists; two Purchase Prize winners to join district collection

At the May 26 meeting the superintendent recognized the district Fine Arts Showcase and named two student winners of the Centennial Purchase Prize; both pieces will join the district collection and winners received $250 commissions.
The board publicly recognized the Fine Arts Showcase, which district presenters said featured more than 2,000 student works at William Tennant High School.
Superintendent Dr. Lukubaugh described the event as a "vibrant celebration of student achievement" and presented certificates and $250 awards to two student artists selected for the Centennial Purchase Prize. Mia Mokin (a sophomore) briefly described the scratch board portrait she created and accepted the award. Another sophomore, Max, was honored for an oil painting and was noted as a recipient of the Congressional Art Award that will place his work in Washington, D.C.
Board members said the selected pieces will be placed around district facilities, including the boardroom, to create a lasting local gallery of student work. The board and superintendent thanked art department and family & consumer sciences staff for organizing the showcase.
