Board approves MOU and security upgrades giving law enforcement emergency access to school cameras; adds panic buttons under Alyssa's Law

The Freehold Regional High School District Board on March 13 approved educational program items that included a memorandum of understanding allowing law enforcement emergency access to upgraded school security cameras, Superintendent Dr. Hazel said.
"This new system allows law enforcement to access cameras in case of an emergency, aiding their response to students and staff," Dr. Hazel told the board, explaining the upgraded platform and noting three schools have finished the installation so far. She also said each of the district's six high schools received an additional panic button so buildings now have three panic buttons, an upgrade implemented to satisfy Alyssa's Law requirements.
The MOU and the camera-access resolution appeared on the evening's agenda and were among the J-1 through J-21 items the board approved by motion and roll call. Dr. Hazel said the camera platform includes advanced features to help administrators and security identify unauthorized individuals on campus during incidents and that the district has received positive feedback at schools where the system is operational.
Board members also discussed that the technology upgrades are part of a broader package of facility and safety improvements being planned and funded through the district's capital work program.
