Morris County previews budget with no tax-rate increase, announces bridge work and federal grant award

A commissioner said the budget committee will introduce the county budget and expects to adopt it at the March meeting, marking the seventh consecutive year with no property tax-rate increase. "We'll be introducing our budget... Seventh year in a row, no tax rate increase," the commissioner said.
Officials also announced an infrastructure project: a small bridge replacement on Gaston Road in Morris Township will begin March 2 and is expected to require a full road closure for up to two months while work proceeds.
Deputy director reported a $560,000 community project funding award to a police department to address structural needs; the award was described as a significant dollar amount secured from Washington and characterized as community project funding.
Other operational updates included Morris County Improvement Authority work on decommissioning school equipment, a Human Services notice of a virtual workforce summit on March 19, 2026, and the Office of Development's public posting of Community Development Block Grant, Emergency Solutions Grant and HOME applications with a March 3, 4:00 p.m. deadline.
The meeting concluded after routine department head reports and a voice vote to adjourn.
