Butner police report Nov. 3 stabbing; suspect charged and Walgreens break-in arrest

The Butner Police Chief reported a Nov. 3 stabbing at 309 22nd Street in which the victim was transported to Duke with serious, life-threatening injuries. "James Tuck from Oxford was taken into custody," the chief said, adding that Tuck was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and was held in the Granville County Detention Center with no bond. The chief said the office is "looking at upgrading those charges" pending grand-jury action by the district attorney.
The chief also reported a vehicle break-in and subsequent financial-card fraud at a Walgreens; he said surveillance footage helped identify suspects and that a person identified as Valerie Hensley from Durham was charged with breaking and entering and obtaining property by false pretenses in connection with the case.
The chief summarized department training totals and noted that delivery of a ladder truck originally expected earlier has been delayed and is now scheduled for December 2026. He encouraged residents to call police with suspicious activity and to use the crime-stoppers tip line and other reporting options.
Council members thanked the chief for the report.
