North Syracuse trustees set multiple hearings, approve hires and emergency generator replacement

The Village Board approved multiple personnel and administrative items during the meeting. Gilbert Stevens was appointed provisionally as assistant superintendent in DPW, contingent on passing the civil-service exam; trustees noted a tentative salary of $60,000. The board also voted to hire Justin Davis and Cameron Bragman as full-time police officers from the eligible civil-service list; both will start academy training March 30 at the Oswego County Police Academy and their employment was effective March 16.
Trustees approved section 211 waivers for part-time officers Ken Isaac and Robert Marshall to waive retiree earning limits and help with staffing shortages. The board also appointed Mark Yorkie as a volunteer firefighter for the North Syracuse Fire Department.
The board set a March 26 public hearing for updates to the five-year community development plan, a March 26 public hearing on a local law allowing a tax levy above the 2% limit, and an April 9 hearing for the tentative FY 2026–27 budget. A PD-zone code-change hearing related to the proposed fire station was scheduled for April 19.
Trustees debated and approved an emergency replacement of a DPW generator at a low bid of $11,700 after discussion about receiving three quotes and documentation. Some trustees expressed concern about approving an emergency expenditure without full documentation; the mayor called the question and the motion passed by voice vote.
The board concluded the public portion of the meeting and voted to enter executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
