Butner accepts $500,000 state grant for East Line Station Greenway extension

Butner council unanimously accepted a $500,000 state grant to build the next section of the East Line Station Greenway, town staff said.
Town manager Jordan told the council the grant, awarded through the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, would fund a 2,400-linear-foot, 10-foot-wide paved multiuse path. The town must provide a 2-to-1 match; Jordan said the town's match would be $288,500.
"This is $500,000 that would be put towards the East Line Station Greenway extension," Jordan said, noting the town has three years to complete the project under the grant and that easement acquisition and environmental review are required grant-eligible activities.
Council voted to accept the grant and authorized the town manager and town attorney to finalize the agreement. Jordan said the town will work to update design exhibits and easement acquisitions and hopes the section will eventually connect to the larger Northpointe development and the existing greenway network.
