Committee releases several bills including Fair Price Protection Act; other consumer and workforce bills advanced

The Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee released three bills during the session and discussed additional workforce measures. After debate and amendment, the committee released the committee substitute for A4085/A4523 (Fair Price Protection Act). The committee also moved and released A4048/S3306, which requires advance notice to buyers of health-club contracts when ownership or billing entities change, and A4525, which extends the deadline for certain temporary certificates of occupancy for qualified redevelopment projects.

Committee members raised process and policy questions on each release. An extended exchange around A4048 focused on whether the 30-day notice and cancellation periods were too broad and whether isolated experiences justified statewide rules. On A4525 the committee passed the release largely without extended debate.

Lawmakers also held discussion-only sessions on bills that would create an inclusive workplaces program and offer tax credits for hiring and retaining neurodivergent individuals (A3074, A3075). Supporters emphasized workforce benefits and social integration; business groups noted potential conflicts with a proposed Medicaid tax assessment that could penalize employers who hire Medicaid beneficiaries. Committee members suggested continued negotiation and possible federal coordination for Medicaid-related work-arounds.

Procedural status: A4085/A4523, A4048/S3306 and A4525 were released as amended; A3074 and A3075 were discussed and will require further drafting and follow‑up.
