District gets turf-field progress report, considers testing and moving contracts for Boyertown Elementary work
Summary
CHA reported turf fields are on schedule and on budget (total project ~ $4.8M); the committee was asked to authorize retaining Kleinfelder for testing (NTE $55,000) and to permit an administrative moving/cleaning agreement of roughly $35,000 to support Boyertown Elementary summer work.

CHA project manager Jamie Lintz updated the Boyertown Area SD facilities committee on two active construction efforts — the athletic turf fields and the Boyertown Elementary School HVAC/roof/electrical project — and requested short‑term contracting steps to support safe, on‑time completion.
On the turf project, Lintz said earthwork is underway, LandTech is the contractor and the schedule remains on track for completion before school resumes this fall. He gave the committee an estimated construction cost of about $3.2 million and soft costs near $1.6 million for a total project estimate of roughly $4.8 million.
Lintz also asked the district to retain Kleinfelder as a third‑party materials testing firm for concrete, soils and infiltration testing and provided a not‑to‑exceed figure of $55,000 for those services. He said those testing costs are included in the project soft costs and that a formal action item to retain Kleinfelder would be brought to the board at the next meeting.
On the Boyertown Elementary renovation, Lintz described a packed, multi‑prime scope: roof replacement, new electrical switchgear, fire alarm replacement and phased HVAC work over two summers. He said demolition and conduit installation are underway, the district has applied to UGI for new gas service to support a gas‑fired emergency generator (which has a long lead time), and a building code official toured the site to confirm necessary scope items revealed when ceilings were opened.
To assist summer logistics, CHA presented a proposal from O'Brien's Moving to remove and later return classroom furniture and to provide supplemental cleaning. Lintz characterized that moving proposal as totaling about $35,000 (he said "not $36,000"); Doctor David Heizer asked the committee for permission to sign the moving agreement administratively under the district's <$50,000 policy so work could begin the Saturday after the last day of school. Committee members indicated assent by a show of hands.
What happens next: The Kleinfelder testing proposal will be formalized as an action item for the next board meeting; the moving and supplemental cleaning work will proceed under administrative procurement if district staff execute as described. The committee set an October 27 facilities meeting date for follow‑up and adjourned.
