The Geneva CUSD 304 Board recognized 17 retirees at its May 26 meeting, honoring educators and support staff across the district for decades of service. Administrators and colleagues highlighted individual careers, campus impacts and personal anecdotes as each retiree was invited forward for a handshake and presentation.
Speakers described long tenures and local legacies: a presenter called Dr. Julie Dye the longest-tenured principal in the district, noting her institutional knowledge and mentorship; another presenter read a University of Chicago commendation for English teacher Paul Thill and recounted his classroom traditions; and staff and parents praised art teacher Al Ochsner for his work with students and school events.
Other retirees honored included Kevin Hendrickson, Ken Japlan, Julie Beyer, Lisa Hawks, Bridget Wachter, Robin Butler and Shawnette Sims, among others. The board arranged a group photo after individual recognitions and presented tokens of appreciation. Board members used the remarks time to thank retirees publicly and to wish graduates and the community a good summer.
