At its May 6 meeting the Halifax Board of Health approved a package of routine permits and administrative actions, including seasonal beach permits, ratification of agent approvals for disposal works permits, appointment of an approved plan reviewer, and affirmation of several grant and revolving accounts.
Board members voted to allow five beaches (Lisonbee, Holmes, Antawan, Twin Lakes and one other listed beach) to open for 2026; the first water testing is scheduled for May 19 and will continue weekly through Sept. 6. The board also ratified agent approvals for disposal‑works permits listed on the agenda and approved conditions for well‑discharge permits, including requiring certified well test results before discharge permits are released.
The board voted to approve Kayla Smith (Middleborough Board of Health agent) as a Halifax board‑approved plan reviewer. A member said the revolving fund allows the board to send plans for outside review, and the motion to appoint Smith carried by voice vote.
The board also carried a series of administrative affirmations and approvals for grant and revolving accounts and approved meeting minutes for previous sessions. All motions in these routine sections were approved by voice vote (Aye).
Next steps: standard implementation of testing and permit conditions; plan review referrals will proceed under the board's revolving‑fund process.
