Coffee County committee approves moving forward on animal-control logo, hears shelter update

The Health Welfare Recreation Committee on May 26 approved moving forward with a redesigned vehicle emblem for county animal control and received an update on the department's shelter relocation. The committee, led by the chair, voiced preference for a side-profile dog in a reddish-orange color and instructed staff to refine the design and colors.

The decision followed a presentation of several mockups. Craig, the animal-control representative, said the side view would reproduce better for embroidery and signage and that the department is still finalizing interior equipment and phone hookups at the new shelter. "We're moving in right now. We're over — we're probably 75% there," Craig said, describing progress toward occupancy and noting that the team expected to complete remaining moves and cleanup soon.

A committee member moved to proceed with the side-view dog in an orange/reddish color; the chair recited the second as Mr. Miller and the committee voted in favor. The committee discussed color choices, including a Tennessee-orange tone and a slightly redder option, and members drew attention to visibility and community sensibilities when picking a hue.

Craig also reported operational details: heavy rainfall earlier prompted transfers from outdoor areas, and roughly a dozen dogs remained to be moved to the new facility. Committee members asked about an ordered replacement truck; Craig said the vehicle was approved in last year's budget and was ordered, but he had no new delivery date beyond an earlier expected arrival in April.

The committee asked staff to continue refining the emblem (including a version that uses three stars in the background) and to return with a final recommendation next month so manufacturing and embroidery can begin. The motion to proceed was approved without recorded roll-call tallies.
